 Meet Lyubov

Meet Lyubov

Leaving a war-torn Russia to find a place of peace for her and her family, Lyubov came to America in the spring of 2003.  Speaking very little English and knowing very few people, adjusting to the American ways was no easy task.

“Somebody told me about the Tacoma Community House – so I came and studied English for one year and then they helped me find a place to volunteer.”

Lyubov always wanted to be involved in the medical field, so when TCH used its connections to get her a volunteer opportunity at a local hospital, she was thrilled.

“In Russia, medical education is too, too expensive. But here I was able to volunteer at MultiCare and then after six months they gave me a job working with people who have disabilities – it was so good.  And I kept learning more and more and then I wanted to do more and more. So Tacoma Community House helped me take more classes – and then still it just wasn’t enough!” she said, laughing, “I always wanted more...so I started taking classes at Clover Park and finally I graduated in August – August 27th.”

Now, almost six years after arriving in America, Lyubov serves as a Surgical Technician at St. Claire’s Hospital.
