Diana’s Story

Diana’s Story

Diana Perez (Former TCH Student/Client)

In 2015, Diana came to the U.S from Mexico, coming to a new country and starting over is not an easy thing to do. Being away from family, and not be familiar with your surroundings or speak the language can be a scary situation but luckily for Diana, in 2016 with the help of her sister she was able to find Tacoma Community House in her search to find a place to learn English as well as obtain immigration services. It was very clear to Diana that the teachers at TCH had a strong passion for the work that they do. In particular her instructor Linda was very patient and understanding of the students in her class. The way she taught helped make Diana and the other students feel comfortable and learn at the pace that worked best for them. Those experiences are what she holds as some of her finest memories at TCH.

Currently, Diana is a paralegal at Novo Legal and specializes in Immigration Law. Using her own personal experience Diana is able to relate to her clients and make sure that they are getting a fair chance. It brings her so much pride to be able to assist others who are in similar situations to her when she first arrived to the U.S.

“I am what I am right now because of Tacoma Community House.”

She would like to send a special shout out to all the staff of TCH, but especially Charlene, Linda, and Rocio (former staff) who have helped Diana grow into the person she is today. As Diana can attest, there were times that were tough and that made her want to give up, but she kept going and eventually got on the path to success. She wants to let potential clients/students of TCH know to not give up and to never let go of your dreams but to hold them, it takes time but it’s worth it.
